Paramount, Los Angeles County
Frank Zamboni built the first ice resurfacing machine in Paramount in 1949, for the Iceland skating rink he and his family had opened nine years earlier. The Zamboni company is still based in the city, and the rink is still open. Before the factories came, the area was dairy country, and its hay market was said to be the largest in the world.
